On Saturday 25th March, the annual Cotswold Hare Trail gets underway for 2017!
The Cotswold Hare Trail this year takes in over 25 towns and villages in the greater Cotswold region and is set to feature upwards of 75 large sculptures of hares, each of them uniquely hand-decorated by one of almost 70 different local artists and painters. From Bristol in the South West to Gloucester and Cheltenham in the West, Chipping Campden in the North, Witney and Woodstock in the East, and Cirencester, Cricklade and Malmesbury in the South, there is a hare spot near you!
The idea behind the annual trail is to put on a fun event that celebrates, supports and nurtures the community spirit of the Cotswold region, and gives exposure and appreciation to the region’s artists. At the same time, it offers a wonderful opportunity for family outings and weekend excursions that adults and children can share together!
When you embark on the Cotswold hare trail, you can expect to enjoy the fun of the search as you hunt for the numerous hidden hares. At the same time, you’ll be exploring the many corners of the region and getting to know them better. And when you finally catch sight of each hare, as well as delighting in the thrill of discovery, you can appreciate the form and colour, and marvel at all the thought and artistry that a local artist has put into painting it!
JMI Bathroom and Kitchen Centre is excited to announce that a site very close to our Chipping Sodbury showroom has been selected to host one of this year’s hares! Shhhh – we can’t reveal more, but do tell your friends about it, and do come and see us when you can for the chance to catch a glimpse of your friendly neighbourhood hare!
The Chipping Sodbury business community is generously sponsoring some of the participating artists this year. We hope you’ll join us in extending our thanks to Chipping Sodbury Chamber of Commerce for their sponsorship of local artists Sarah Fortes, Sara Rickard and Jane Callan; and to Waitrose at Chipping Sodbury for sponsoring local artist Sue Guthree.
There is a local launch party scheduled for Saturday March 25th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Baptist Church, High Street, Chipping Sodbury. Here, you can meet the local artists named above, enjoy biscuits, tea and coffee, and (if you want to) get your face painted absolutely free-of-charge!
The hare trail for 2017 will draw to a close at the end of the summer with a public auction of all this year’s hares at New Brewery Arts in Cirencester, a town that probably deserves to be called the epicentre of the hare trail as it is playing host to no fewer than 20 of this year’s hares. The auction will take place on October 6th, with viewing available for over two weeks beforehand, starting on September 18th. Bidding is likely to be fierce.
All of us at JMI Bathrooms and Kitchens are thrilled to participate once again in the Cotswold Hare Trail this year. We hope you will join us, and look forward to seeing you fellow hare-hunters out there!
