1. I THINK IT’S ABOUT TIME PEOPLE STOP FEELING SEA SICK WHEN THEY USE YOUR BATHROOM
HERE’S SOME ADVICE FROM OUR DESIGN EXPERTS ON THE BEST COLOURS TO USE IN A BATHROOM:
Get a colour wheel
Although you probably don’t know it, most colour schemes come directly from the rules of the colour wheel. Why do purple and yellow go together? Well, they are across from each other on the colour wheel, making them complementary. How about green and blue? They’re next to each other, making them similar. So give yourself a good background, as well as quick and easy solutions to your colour questions, and use a colour wheel.
Choose three colours
The rule of three is a great principle to follow when creating a bathroom colour scheme. Pick one neutral, one rich colour, and one accent. To do it successfully, think about proportion and rely on a 70/20/10 distribution: Use the lightest colour for 70 percent of the room’s décor, the second lightest for 20 percent, and the boldest for 10 percent.
Look at your own home
When it doubt, draw colour inspiration for your bathroom from the rest of your home. For example, pick up on an accent colour in your living space, and make it the dominant colour in your bathroom. Although the rooms will maintain their own identity, they’ll have a flow that will enhance your home’s overall look.
2. THE KIDS HAVE GROWN UP AND NO LONGER DOES A SPONGE PLUS DABBING AND PAINT SESSION SEEM GOOD ANY MORE
WHY BATHROOM PAINT AND NOT ORDINARY PAINT?
Bathroom paint has anti-microbial additives which help resist mildew.
Moisture should be your first concern when laying down a fresh coat of paint on your walls. Moisture affects your bathroom walls in two ways. First, moisture from steamy baths and showers will gather on the walls. Second, water directly from the shower, bath, or sink may contact the walls. You can prevent moisture before it begins to form on walls by having bathroom fans, infrared ceiling heaters, watertight shower curtains, back splashes, and shower/tub tile surrounds.
3. MAGNOLIA AND WHITE IS THE BATHROOM COLOURS OF TODAY, DROP THAT YELLOW!
Magnolia is the new black
At JMI we can make any colour work but if you are looking for a modern, fuss-free look then you cannot go wrong with magnolia. Take a look at our ‘Bathrooms Image Gallery’ on our website for some examples of what we can do with such a simple colour.
4. MATCHING TO THE MAX
MATCH OR CLASH?
Take a look at our ‘Bathrooms Image Gallery’ on our website for some examples of how we can help you match or clash the right way.
A clever trick to making a small bathroom look bigger is to use the same tiles on both the walls and the floor. We will find a range that is suitable for both uses (we will ensure it is durable enough to use as flooring) and advise a choice of larger-size versions to give an even cleaner finish.
If you do want to use a mixture of prints, we advise you have a thread of continuity in your prints, for example, black and red. Otherwise, without it your pattern clash will look a careless mess.
